5 Ways To Increase Targeted Traffic
You know you need traffic to make sales, but you don't want just any traffic. You need targeted traffic. You want click throughs and conversions, not visitors who either aren't interested in your site at all, or just look around and leave.

Everyone wants more search engine traffic, it's free and targeted. It can be a huge source of traffic. But how?

This article isn't about 'basic SEO', it's about 'continued SEO'. Once your keywords are chosen, pages are online and optimized, this is what to do next.

Research Your Search Logs
If you have decent hosting , you should have a cpanel with a few ways of looking at your stats. Otherwise, you'll need to install some code and use another style of stats counter.

What pages are your visitors interested in? What pages do they leave your site from? How long do they stay? What keywords/phrases are they finding your site with?

You had an idea in mind when you created your site, but it may not be what your visitors see, or would like to see, while on your site. Making sales means your site is about what your visitors want, not what you want.

For example, if your site is about 'kids toys' and people find your site using 'kids toys safety', write a page about kids toys safety. Give your visitors (and the search engines) what they are looking for.

Add New Content Regularly
Not everyone has time to write new articles daily, but still can add new content once or twice per week.

It can be difficult not only to find the time, but also to enforce to others that you need the time to 'work on your website.' Most others in your life won't take your web work seriously -- until the cheques start coming in.:) Let them know that you do take it seriously and will need XXX amount of uninterupted time per day/week.

As a sidenote - keep your work area tidy. It is hard to concentrate on work when you look around and see all the other things you need to do, like that pile of laundry/dishes/papers, etc. No mess = no distractions.

If you can add an article everyday, within one year you'll have nearly 400 pages of content for your visitors - and for search engines to spider.

Search engines love new content, and will spider your site more often if they expect to find it. You'll also be rewarded with all that extra traffic since each new page you add will contain different keywords/phrases.

Offer Articles For Reprint
Many webmasters are looking for more content and would love to post your articles on their sites. Your article will of course include a byline with a link to your site inviting new site visitors.
Search engines will count these as links in to your site also.

Think you can't write? It isn't as difficult as you might think.

If you're having a hard time getting started...

*Spend time reading about your topic and see how/what others are writing. Immersing yourself in the topic will help ideas come easier.

*Brainstorm on paper first using point form.

*Then organise your points into paragraphs using connecting words. Don't censor yourself, write it as it comes and save the editing for the last draft.

*Read it aloud and take a short break before rewriting the final draft. Taking a break will allow you to see things with 'fresh eyes' when you return to it.

Signatures
Use your signature line in *emails and on *forums you frequent.
*I am recommending using signatures in your email/forums, NOT spamming.*
List your website in public profiles, such as Yahoo!.

It's an old idea, but it works. (Although it won't work in forums if you don't post once in a while.:))

Get Links To Your Site
One link from a high traffic site can bring you lots of traffic. Thousands of links on thousands of sites...well, you get the idea.

Search engines consider each link to your site a 'vote' for your site, and will increase your rank based partially on how many sites point to yours. Especially other high quality sites, and sites whose content is related to yours.

If you have lots of quality content, an affiliate program, great freebies, or such, many webmasters will link to your site with no further effort on your part.

The easiest way to get links in to your site is by requesting reciprocal links with other webmasters.

Find appropriate sites to trade with by searching for your keywords. Ask the top sites to trade links with you.

Do another search to find out who is linking to those top rated sites, (the format for this type of search is: link:http://www.topsiteforyourkeyword.com), request link trades with those sites.

If you work on just these 5 easy things that you can start today, and continue building on to increase targeted & search engine traffic, you will see results. Happy promoting.:)
